MADHUKOSH — Word to heart, hive to home
On 22 October 2026, Walk by Faith, a ministry of Nepali Christian Church Aldershot, launched project MADHUKOSH with prayer: a five-year project bringing the sweetness of God's Word and a sustainable beekeeping livelihood to 150 Chepang families in Nepal.
MADHUKOSH combines two Nepali words: madhu (honey) and kosh (chamber or treasury). Together they mean a honeycomb — a chamber built to hold and multiply something sweet.
"Pleasant words are as an honeycomb, sweet to the soul, and health to the bones." — Proverbs 16:24
Two kinds of sweetness
MADHUKOSH brings two kinds of sweetness to Chepang families:
God's Word: hope, peace, healing, identity and reconciliation, with new life through Jesus Christ.
The beehive: a sustainable livelihood, income, practical skills, dignity and a better future for each family.
How it works
The project begins in the home. Through God's Word, read, shared and prayed over together, families receive a spiritual sweetness: hope, peace and new life in Christ. Through the beehive, they receive a practical sweetness: each family is given a hive and hands-on training, and honey sales strengthen household livelihoods. Over time, these strengthened households grow together into fellowship and community.
For the hives, we will use the native Apis cerana (Serena) honeybee, a hardy forest species well suited to the Chepang hills. It requires minimal management, needs no supplementary sugar feeding and does not need to be transported to find forage. It gathers nectar and pollen from the surrounding forest, which keeps costs low, and its wild honey is valued for its medicinal qualities.
Our vision is to reach 150 Chepang families over five years. We are starting with five families in this first year, and will then grow step by step, welcoming new families each year that follows.
Project team
Pastor Mohan K. (Nepal), Pastor Devi Raj P. (Nepal) and Pastor Bikesh P. (Nepal) , together with the Walk by Faith team of Nepali Christian Church Aldershot.
As MADHUKOSH begins, we ask you to stand with us in prayer: that God's Word would bring hope to each family, that the hives would flourish, and that the team would be guided in every step
